At last, one of the most corrupt and ridiculous governments in italian history has fallen. Unfortunately, the event is not ascribable to the people”s battle against Berlusconi”s social inequity policies, nor is it accountable to a new sense of morality that aims at fighting corruption. We cannot even suggest that an emerging political project is rising to face and overcome the madness of our current social and political system. On the contrary, the end of the Berlusconi government is the effect of a planned attack by part of national and international governing class executives who judged Berlusconi (correctly from their point of view) too weak to consort the social massacre that is required to maintain their domain and continue to fill their pockets.
Berlusconi”s fall can be attributed to obstacles which thrived within his coalition, part of which was against the unpopular choices ordered by Brussels. But, above all because the centre – right coalition lacked the support of both social and union forces. Such institutions would have played an important role in subsiding the legitimate protests against those who were upsetting the labour world, pension plans and the structure of common goods.
Mario Monti bears widespread approval inside and outside of Italy. His role and position will enable him to destroy the welfare state once and for all and much more efficiently than Berlusconi. This is why he has been chosen to run the government. To deprive us of any rights we conquered in two centuries of struggle: the defeat of poverty, working class rights, public education, a decent pension plan, public health care. All this is going to vanish, in the name of “growth” and for Europe”s well being. Such a useless havoc is not going to strengthen growth. It is going to lead us straight into economic recession and social despair.
Alternativa strongly denounces the Monti government”s task to implement political policies of divestment ( selling of public properties, privatization of common goods ), it denounces the aggression on incomes as well as on the quality of life and working conditions of middle and lower class citizens. Alternativa furthermore decries President Napolitano”s role in this crisis as he chooses to overlook the limits of his constitutional duty by becoming the tool of a political scheme which goes against the people”s interest. Finally, Alternativa denounces the total loss of democracy as Italy becomes a State governed by non – democratic foreign entities such as the BCE and FMI.
The Monti government is going to make us poorer, more precarious and consequently less free.
Alternativa calls out to all the social forces of our country to stand united against this government, whose only aim is the stripping of the italian people.
